Q. Who are you?
A. I am Sa'Mya Akhir and I AM INDEPENDENCE. I am 13 and attend W.H. Atwell.
Q. Share one way in which you live out who you are everyday?
A. One way I express who I am everyday is by taking a task that I am given, and getting it done. Even if I have to figure some things out alone.
Q. What is your goal for this academic school year?
A. My goals for this academic school year, is to be more focused and make all A's.
Q. What personal challenges have you had to overcome within the last 12 to 24 months? And how were you able to overcome them.
A. Talking too much in class was an overall challenge for me. I had to separate myself from my friends while in class.
Q. Do you feel that it is easy or difficult to be a girl in this culture?
A. I feel that it is very difficult being a female in this culture. I feel this way because there are tons of obstacles we have to go through such as "fitting in."
Q. If you had to deliver the United Girls Around the World Address, share one thing you would say to girls around the world?
A. I would tell them to always stay true to yourself, and be yourself. Never care what anyone thinks.
Q. If you could give one piece of advice to parents of youth, what would it be?
A. I would tell them to make sure they have a great relationship with their youth and make sure their youth know they love them.
Q. Ten years from now, where will you be and what will you be doing?
A. Ten years from now I will be 23 years old and in college working on getting whichever degree I have made my mind to pursue.
Q. Share one of your favorite quotes, poem, or phrases.
A. There is only one thing that a person can give and keep at the same time...their love.
Q. In closing, share one thing about yourself that people would find funny, exciting or surprising about you?
A. If I'm new to someone and I don't know them, I'll be very "shy and quiet" but little do they know I'm very goofy and talkative. It just takes a little time.
